Educational Philosophy

Each child is unique.  God created each child special, with different talents and abilities, personalities and strengths.  We celebrate and support each child's uniqueness at Building Blocks Christian Academy!

Each child needs support.  Growing and learning is challenging work.  Building Blocks Christian Academy's faculty and staff create an individualized education for each student, supporting his or her goals, strengths, challenges, and needs.

Each child thrives with connection.  Building Blocks is constantly constructing its community, looking for opportunities to create connection among students, parents, educators, our campus church, and our neighbors.

Each child is loved by God.  Grace is the word we use for God's love because it is unending, unconditional, and unimaginable.  He love makes the best foundation for our student's lives (and ours, too) because it never fails!

Building a Blueprint for Each Child

Our teachers make it a priority to observe students, noting their different talents and abilities, personalities and strengths.  We use these observations to tailor our instruction to meet each child's individual needs.  By creating a blueprint for each child, we document each student's individual goals, strengths, challenges and needs.  Each child's blueprint acts as a progress report which teachers use as a tool for sharing information with parents about their child's growth and development.

Constructing a Community of Connection

Building Blocks is vibrant community that creates opportunities to build connection among students, parents, educators and our community.  Some of the ways we do this include:

  • Field trips, class holiday celebrations and activities

  • Monthly family chapel

  • Social events for families to gather.

  • Parent education workshops

  • Families of Building Blocks Parent Organization

  • And more!

"The teachers have clearly put a lot of thought and time in developing age appropriate curriculum. My daughter has grown so much verbally, emotionally and socially. I'm excited to see all of the growth that will continue to happen the next 2 years!"

Curriculum

We provide a program that reflects the individual developmental level of each child through small group and large group activities. Our curriculum is based on active learning and hands-on experiences. We blend play-based learning with academic experiences to prepare children for the next level in their education.  We celebrate and support each child's individual learning path.  Our teachers keep each individual child's needs in mind, providing students with the right blend of challenge and support for physical, social, emotional, mental and spiritual development.

Our program provides a curriculum rich in Language Arts skills and Math concepts. Children are invited to explore the world around them as we study various Science and Social Studies themes. Children are also encouraged to express themselves creatively and our day has many opportunities for Art and Music activities. Incorporated throughout the day are opportunities for the children to develop both their fine and large motor skills.

A child’s social and emotional skills are a very important part of the foundation needed for learning and growth.  We work with all of the children to develop and grow these skills throughout their years at Building Blocks. Through stable routines, a Christian example, and gentle, consistent guidance, the children learn focus and self-control, perspective taking, effective communication, and confidence to take on challenges.  The loving, Christian care creates an atmosphere that also fosters helpfulness, generosity and caring.

Daily Routine

At Building Blocks Christian Academy, we understand that young children thrive when they are provided with a consistent routine. Our daily schedule provides children all the experiences they need to grow and learn.

We begin our day with circle time which includes a short devotion, songs and calendar. Our morning is spent alternating between large-group time and small-group time. These activities include indoor & outdoor free-play, Language Arts and Math experiences, Movement and Music, Art, and Bible story time. We also include snack time mid-morning.

Our afternoon includes lunch, rest time, afternoon snack and educational experiences reinforcing and extending what we learned in the morning. We end each day with a closing circle time.

Our Campus

We are conveniently located in the heart of the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles.  Our preschool also serves families from surrounding neighborhoods such as Marina del Rey, Venice, Playa Vista, Culver City & more.

Our learning environment features purposefully designed classrooms with toys and materials to spark your child's creativity and curiosity.  The outdoor space is an extension of the classroom and consists of a beautiful courtyard, large greenspace and a playground structure.
